For me, 2016 was the year of the eyeshadow palettes. This year I was sucked into purchasing so many palettes, mostly of similar colour scheme (of course, damn those warm neutrals & beautiful red tones). Brands were killing it with all the new releases, so much so that I was practically forced into wearing eyeshadow on a daily basis just to get the use out of all my new purchases! I’m not complaining though.. my eyeshadow skills have really improved!
KYLIE COSMETICS – KYSHADOW
I must admit, I was very skeptical upon ordering The Bronze Palette after seeing a huge clash of opinions and reviews. I was left stunned after my first use.. this palette is amazing!!!! The shades are 100% up my alley, I can use almost every shade for one look and you can easily create day time and night time looks from the palette. This baby is now a staple and a go-to in my collection! I recently purchased The Burgundy Palette, and whilst I am yet to use it, I have swatched it and the colour pay off of the shimmer shades is unbelieveable – very comparable to Make Up Geek foiled shadows. I’m excited to see what Kyshadow Palettes Kylie has in store for us in 2017!
TOO FACED – SWEET PEACH
This limited edition palette was possibly one of the most anticipated releases of the year? I remember being not overly fussed about it upon the first glances at the sneak peaks, but obiviously they marketed the shit out of it and I ended up
wanting needing it in my life. Mecca released it online, and I recall waking up on the hour every hour on the day of release to ensure i’d get my hands on one, i’m dedicated, right? It was lucky I did, as it sold out extremely quickly! I have heard rumours that Too Faced are re-releasing it along with a bunch of other “Sweet Peach” products in the new year, so if you missed out stay tuned!!! The Sweet Peach palette is unlike any other eyeshadow palette that I own. The peachy tones are divine, especially matched with my blue eyes!
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS – MODERN RENAISSANCE
Hands down my favourite makeup release of 2016. Norvina, you nailed this!!!!! If you haven’t managed to get your hands on it yet, i’m telling you – you need this in your life! And luckily for you the Modern Renaissance palette is a permanent addition to the ABH fam. The shades blend out beautifully, they colour pay off is amazing and all the colours are completely wearable and interchangeable from a day to night look. I highly, highly, highly reccommend getting this baby. My go-to look to create for an ‘everyday’ eye look is using Raw Sienna and Warm Taupe!
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS – MASTER PALETTE BY MARIO
I have been following Mario Dedivanovic on Instagram for a while now, being an avid Kardashian’s fan! I was super excited about the release of his eyeshadow palette in collaboration with Anastasia Beverly Hills after seeing many sneak peaks on Norvina’s Snapchat. This palette inspired me to create halo eyes – something I had never really tried out before. Although this palette is mainly composed of shimmer shades, the range is gorgeous and you can create so many different looks! The formula emulates previous ABH eyeshadows and definitely does not disappoint!
CIATÉ LONDON – PRETTY, FUN, FEARLESS
Ciaté London teamed up with Chloe Morello to create a beauty haul, which included the Pretty, Fun, Fearless palette! To be honest with you, I wasn’t even going to buy the beauty haul. I saw Chloe’s youtube tutorial, I saw snaps from the UK and US launch events and I saw many Instagram posts about it, but I still wasn’t interested in it. My friend Shelby (check her insta here) and I attended Mecca Maxima’s launch at Chadstone in Melbourne where by chance we actually got to meet and take a selfie with Chloe! (She is flawless btw, I was stunned). After this, when it was finally our turn to get let in store, we swatched the palette and were pretty impressed by the shimmer-y shades but still not overly impressed by the rest. In the end, I had a #yolo moment and bought the beauty haul and boy am I glad I did!!!! Seeing as I really wasn’t phased by the Pretty, Fun, Fearless palette in the beginning, after my first use I was so, so, so, so impressed! The shade range recieves a big tick from me, browns, golds and plums are stunning. I think the balance of shimmer shades and mattes is perfect. There seems to be a matching shimmer shade that pairs with a lot of the mattes. I love using the shades (Unconditional, On Fire & Queen Bee) for an easy bronze-y, matte day time look. The shadows blend out beautifully, a lot better than they swatched in store.
I’m very excited to see what palettes are in store for 2017!! What have been your favourite eyeshadow palettes this year? Let me know in the comments!
